Taupo & Waterfall

21 maart 2015 - National Park, Nieuw-Zeeland

Still alive!
Days go by and most of them are the same. The National Park Village area is beautiful. The big mountains, great sunrise and sunset colors and the Park Hotel is a great place to be. But the village is very small; it has a gas station where you can do some groceries, but because it the only store in town the prices are very high. If you have a car it's no problem. Than you can drive to cities like Taupo and Turangi. If you want to go to a bigger village, just go to Whakapapa village. But unfortunately my roommate Lauren and I don't own a car so we are a little bit stuck in this village. The sights are very pretty, but you are literately stuck and you are forced to buy expensive groceries at the gas stations. You just don't have a choice.

Fortunately Lauren is very social and after a restaurant shift with our colleague Steph Lauren was offered to borrow her car. Thursday was our day off so we decided to go to Taupo. Taupo is big city with nice stores and a beautiful lake. So after a beautiful drive between mountains, rivers, green trees and big rocks we arrived after 1,5 hours in Taupo. While Lauren was arranging her bank account I had enough time to explore Taupo. I bought a ice cream and ate it in the park. Later we went to the countdown grocery store and bought a lot of food ;-) We drove back to our hotel and ate our subway sandwich, which was lovely.

Friday, so yesterday we both slept in and Lauren went with two other girls to another town. I was thinking to go on a hike when someone knocked on the door. It was Casey, the boyfriend of Steph who borrowed their car to us the day before. He had a day off as well and was planning to walk to the waterfall. His girlfriend Steph had to work so he was asking me to walk with him. I was very surprised, but of course I said yes.

Together we climbed a mountain to overlook the waterfall. It was so peaceful and beautiful there. But the path was not very good and you could easily get lost or fall because it was so narrow and steep. When we crossed the little stream something bad happened, I dropped my phone into the stream and I couldn't find it anymore. It was very dark and there were many rocks. But I found it, dried it and guess what: It still works :-D The waterfall was beautiful to see. On our way back we found a cave and in the back of the cave we saw a deer. It was very dark, but I could see the brown color and the sparkle in his eyes.

My two days off this week were very very very nice!!! But I have to work again.... I'll keep you updated:-)
