Fifty Shades of Green

11 april 2015 - Manawatu-Wanganui, Nieuw-Zeeland

"The land is very booby"
What can I tell you about this sentence? Well, it wasn't me who said it, that's for sure. No worries mom, you raised me well :-) Yesterday (10 April) Lauren and I went to Wanganui. She made some appointments there and had to bring me as her navigator. The road to Wanganui is just one way, but who cares. It was raining non stop in National Park for the last three days. We went to Wanganui, even with the risk of spending another day in the rain. We borrowed the mini van of Niamh and Lisa G, who also work at the Park Hotel and started our trip. It was 122 km to Wanganui and we drove through wind and rain. The one way road was just normal at the beginning, but after a while it started.... Curves.... So many curves! Special speed limits, road works and even rocks and fallen trees on the road!!! But the colors were beautiful. So many shades of green. Some almost look fake. The weather was getting better and better and we could even see the sun in Wanganui! It was busy the city center; a lot of traffic. Lauren tried to park the car and three other cars honked at us. We still don't have any idea why. In town I bought a new pair of shoes because my old ones got holes in them. A nice milkshake and a subway sandwich. At the end of the day Lauren convinced me to get a Mac Flurry, which I never had before. Ok, it's not disgusting but it definitely didn't opened my eyes and I can still say: "nope, McDonald's is nothing (Macers' in NZ) for me".
When it was already dark we drove back. As soon as we passed the Wanganui sign and started the 122 km back it started to rain again :-( We started to count the curves but stopped at 63, but trust me it were too many. To come back to that first sentence I wrote... It was Lauren who said that, but I agree with her for once: The land was very booby.

When we came back at the hotel I had great news: My package finally arrived! I opened it and saw all the good Dutch things in there. "stroopwafels", chocolate hearts, "drop", "knoppers", "hagelslag", "vlokken", "ontbijtkoek", anise for in hot milk, a book and Oreo cookies. Also a sweet postcard from Sil, Hidde, Famke, mom and Eric and a paper from the NZ security. They searched my package. Of course they did; package from Amsterdam right ;-)

Today it's 11th April and we know what that means.... It has been two months! The time flies! I can't believe it has already been two months since I've seen my family and friends. I miss you all very much!
